From the Editor’s Desk

Happy New Year Readers and clients. The team at TIAS hope you all had a wonderful break with family and friends.
2018 TIAS has some new initiatives which we are very excited about. First off, we would like to introduce to you our Bribie Island and Surrounds MEANDER map. The concept is to create an informative map that will draw tourists and day visitors to the region. It will be a pull-out section in the centre of the paper that our visitors and new locals can refer to. This initiative is designed to showcase our Pumicestone Region as a great tourist destination and we envisage small business, artists, crafters, farm stores and more will begin opening along our routes that we have earmarked. We as locals of the Pumiscestone Region need to look at this as “Our Business” working together to capture our share of the massive day visitor and tourist market from Brisbane and the world! The map is viewed as an added extra to our publication not a diversion away from our news and views. Advertising in the Map section is an “info-ad” rather than a hard sell advert. The idea is that the viewer refers to the map first, they then choose a destination and the stops along the route. The number on the map is the same as the advert number which then gives them all the necessary information on that particular business.
After speaking to a few businesses last week, the feedback is incredible. If you would like to get involved in the Bribie Island and Surrounds MEANDER Map please contact myself on 0447 007 966 or Roger (the creator) on design1@islandandsurrounds.com.au. We would like to get a committee together to assist us with creating the best and most detailed map in our region. What’s in it for our Committee? Free advertising for a year and full membership of the association for a year, if your required tasks are achieved.
During the coming months we will also have a coupon page dedicated to our small businesses in this region. Building our economy is one of the most important projects we want to achieve here. Our job is to ensure our local businesses keep going strong and I am happy to chat to anyone for any idea’s. We will have a much larger presence in our community and work closely with community groups.
This year for TIAS you will see some exciting changes in our newspaper with the above just being one or two of them with many more to come.
Enjoy your read for issue 20 and the first issue for 2018.
Warm regards
Belinda Ferguson.
