Beachmere’s Mazlin Park Set For Major Upgrade

Long popular with locals and visitors alike as a tranquil area in which to sit and contemplate the ocean view, conduct family celebrations and to access the beach, Beachmere’s Mazlin Park in Biggs Avenue is to be completely re-developed within the next three years.

The $850,000 upgrade, part of the state government’s $13.8million post-lockdown grants program, will include a wedding deck, new pathways, picnic setting, shelter, barbecue area, accessible toilet facilities, revamped gardens with coastal planting, lighting and retaining walls. The infrastructure will also incorporate interpretive signage and artwork and reminders of Beachmere’s history. Harking back to the days when Beachmere Sailing Club operated from the park will be a new canoe/kayak launchpoint on the foreshore, while lawn and seating spaces overlooking the water will offer improved places for the celebration of community milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries and engagements.

Division 2 Councillor Mark Booth says his vision is that the work will tie in with the proposed Streetscape project at the Main Street end of Biggs Avenue, bringing the whole Foreshore Project alive, adding, “It will encourage local tourism to the area and in turn support local businesses along Biggs Avenue and surrounds.”
