Healthy Habits

There are many things in life we take for granted. From clean running water to our beautiful surroundings, sometimes it is easy to forget the important role these factors play in our lives.

Perhaps one of the biggest things we can take for granted is our health. Maintaining balanced mental and physical wellbeing is vital in ensuring we live healthy, happy lives. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life it can be easy to forgo activities and practices that benefit our overall health.

As World Health Day approaches on Friday April 7, it is a time for us to consider what movement and actions we can implement into our lives to lead a healthier more positive lifestyle. Although it may seem daunting, you do not necessarily need fancy gym equipment or a strict regimented diet. Taking a realistic approach to building up health and fitness is imperative to creating long lasting habits. Making use of our local surroundings is one of the best ways to stay motivated whilst not having to venture too far from home.

Simple steps can include making the switch to buy fresh produce from markets and local suppliers. Free gym equipment located along the foreshore is a great way to add some extra movement to your passage walk. Beach walks at Woorim offer another free form of exercise whilst providing some spectacular views. Another great community-based event is the Bribie Island Park Run, which occurs weekly and is a great way to get involved whether it be by yourself or with a couple of friends.

If you are stuck for ideas but keen to join a local class, the Moreton Bay Regional Council website is a great place to start. The Healthy and Active Moreton tab on the website provides an extensive list of fitness options offered in and around the Moreton area. A plethora of events for each month are outlined including their time, place and age recommendations. These events include everything from group yoga in the park, dance class to parkour lessons, there is something for everyone and it is an amazing way to get involved with something new and challenging.

For some, exercising is not just about the fitness aspect, but also about socialisation. Local organisations such as the Bribie on the Run or rowing groups provide friendly environments for all ages.

It is important to remember health and fitness extends past physical movement, with mental health being of equal importance. From our local gyms to sports clubs to fresh produce, Bribie has something for everyone. Whether you are a fitness pro or just starting out, it is important to take the time to consider the importance of our health and not take it for granted.
