Labor’s rego raid smashes Queensland drivers

Queensland drivers will be whacked this winter when Labor’s latest rego hikes which kicked in on July 1.

Queensland already has the nation’s highest rego fees for six and eight cylinder cars and they will climb even higher thanks to Labor’s inflation-busting 3.5 per cent increase.

“Queensland drivers pay some of the highest fuel prices in Australia and we pay the highest rego too,” LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said today.

“The LNP froze rego for three years running, but Labor is squeezing drivers dry.

“Congestion is getting worse, QR is in crisis and all Annastacia Palaszczuk can do is take more money off motorists.

“Queensland drivers deserve a break from Labor’s annual rego raid.”

On July 1, the 12-month registration of an eight-cylinder vehicle increased from $742.65 to $768.65.

A six-cylinder registration will increased from $545.80 to $564.90.

A four-cylinder registration increased from $364.65 to $377.40. Only the ACT has a higher four-cylinder rego fee – currently $376.

Also on July 1, vehicles with a dutiable value of more than $100,000 was hit with an additional two per cent stamp duty, adding thousands to the cost of new cars, campervans and motorhomes under 4.5 tonnes.

“Labor’s Grey Nomad tax will slug retirees looking forward to the trip of a lifetime for thousands of dollars in extra tax,” Ms Frecklington said.

“After a life of hard work and years of saving, the Palaszczuk Labor Government is happy to rip money right out of retirees’ pockets. Labor is taxing Queenslanders’ dreams.” Deb said.
