BEACHMERE SANDGARDEN COMPETITION

As part of it’s 150th Birthday Celebrations, Beachmere will stage a Sandgarden competition on Saturday, 16 May from 10am.

On the beach at Lehman Park near 3 Biggs Ave teams of two can join in all the fun of building their sandgarden – just like in the “old” days.

Sandgarden Competitions were a major event in the Moreton Bay Region from the 1920’s until the 1960’s, including at Beachmere.

Thousands of people would attend with trophies and prizes being offered and winners featured in the major paper of the day..

A Sandgarden is NOT a Sand Castle nor is it, what is termed, Sand Sculpting.

Sandgardens are decorated spaces, 1m square x 15cm high using shells, stones, driftwood etc, anything that can be found on the beach and washed back into the sea.

Enter as a team or come and watch. Start collecting, create your design and start practising.

For all information to enter a team, or for entry forms, contact HELEN 0411 347 830 OR email info@bang.org.au.

The Sandgarden Competition is just one of several activities and events during the Back to Beachmere weekend. A Street Parade, Festival in the Park, Bush Dance and a High Tea will make Beachmere the destination to be in mid May.
