Bribie singer reaches for the stars

By Alistair Gray

What a thrill it was to watch Kiani Smith, with her guitar and golden voice fight for her place on the Australian Idol stage. At 17, she showed maturity beyond her young age as she put her dream of being a professional singer out there. Australian Idol, a Channel 7 reality show running since 2003, aims to find the most commercial Australian young singer. The competition is tough and judges Kyle Sandilands, Marcia Hines and Amy Shark are ruthless as they sort their way through the young singers in their search for a young star with special star magic. The finalists will go through a series of nationwide auditions and public vote.
