“Elf” Comes to Bribie Island

By Staff Writer Alistair Gray

Wow! What a great night. There was an air of excitement as about 500 people gathered at Brennan Park in Bongaree for an outdoor screening of the classic 2003 movie Elf. The deck chairs were out, families, friends and heaps of kids sitting on rugs, enjoying their picnics, eating fairy floss, or munching on a Rotary sausage. It was one of those perfect Bribie evenings, with no breeze, a setting sun, and families just relaxing and enjoying themselves.

The Park started coming alive at about 4 pm with heaps of entertainment before the movie started at 7 pm. There were giant outdoor games set up, with hands-on environmental education activities delivered by Ocean Life Education - a big hit with many of the kids. Also, many local artists played music continuously. Everyone enjoyed the music, particularly the many senior citizens who also wandered down to see what was happening and stayed to enjoy the fun and movie. All enjoyed a great evening.

A big thanks to the Moreton Bay Regional Council, Division 1 Councillor, Brooke Savige, and Council's Special Event team for putting on such an enormously successful evening. Here’s hoping the Council will repeat this in the New Year.
