Construction on hundreds of new homes in Burpengary East is now underway after the Crisafulli Government accelerated housing developments in an effort to boost supply and respond to housing demand in the area.

The Crisafulli Government declared the North Harbour Priority Development Area less than a year ago to deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders by supporting the coordinated planning and delivery of housing, infrastructure and community facilities after development previously stalled at the site.

Works to support the construction of the first 249 homes is underway, with planning continuing for at least 3700 homes in the declared area.

The Priority Development Area's Early Release Area will include terraces and detached homes, with a range of homes to be delivered across the PDA to meet differing housing needs, including a mix of three and four-bedroom villas, detached houses and apartments.

The housing boost is expected to generate almost 2000 jobs and add $456 million into the regional economy.

Burpengary East’s population has increased by 43% since 2021 and is expected to continue growing significantly again by 2041.

North Harbour has been designed to support long-term liveability, with future residents set to benefit from retail, extensive open space and parklands.

Member for Pumicestone Ariana Doolan said North Harbour was building a community for the future.

“As our region continues to grow, projects like North Harbour will play an important role in ensuring more Queenslanders have a place to call home, and the Crisafulli Government is also playing its part to ensure keys can be handed over to more families faster,” Ms Doolan said. “We’re finally seeing fast and meaningful steps toward easing pressure in places like here in Burpengary thanks to the right support being delivered after a decade of decline.”

North Harbour Project Director Bryan Finney said it was exciting to see the first dirt being turned over for the project.

“The sod turning marks an exciting milestone for North Harbour as we commence construction of the first neighbourhood within the Priority Development Area,” he said. “This is a significant step in bringing to life our vision for a vibrant waterfront destination in the City of Moreton Bay that will deliver new homes, create local jobs and provide exceptional lifestyle opportunities.”
