Congratulations to Janene Suttie, the ‘Most Contribution by an Individual to a Club’ award winner at the Queensland Council of Garden Clubs Inc. (QCGC) Biennial Awards.

Held recently in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Auditorium, the event honours the efforts of individuals and clubs throughout Queensland for outstanding contributions to their club or their community. Twenty-seven clubs were represented at the event, with members' clubs from Cooktown in the north to Coolangatta in the south and west to Charleville.

The award was made by Professor Graeme Nimmo RFD, QCGC patron and husband of Dr Jeannette Young, the Governor of Queensland. The award recipient, Janene has been a member of the Pumicestone Gardening Club for more than 20 years, providing support and service to her club and local community. Janene is the club’s communications officer and editor of their ‘Grapevine Newsletter’ and meeting reminders ‘Forget-me-not’, which go out by email and also hand delivered via her mobility scooter for the non-email members. She has held an open garden at her residence and introduced the Water Wizards - a group of members who tend to your gardens while you are on holiday, sells raffle tickets, goes to sit with and comforts aged and unwell members of the club and helps in many other ways.

“Janene is an extremely valuable club member; she is the most generous and deserving person who derives so much pleasure from giving,” Wayne Kelly from Pumicestone Gardening Club Inc. said.
