It’s the busiest time of year for parents, as the summer school holidays are here, lasting 6-8 weeks, but may feel like 20 for some. Due to winter sports such as rugby league, soccer and Australian rules football being the pinnacle of our local sports base and most popular in the Moreton Bay area, it may be challenging to find suitable sporting activities for children.
Bribie Island Golf Club Golf isn’t always seen as a top-tier sport for youth; however, the Bribie Island Golf Club have a sensational junior system in place. Although their weekly Tuesday and Saturday junior program will return in the new year, a family-fun day out with the kids is worth it and there is a great chance that some bored children will turn into eager golfers these holidays. Cost-wise, it is very accommodating, as just $150 will score a junior yearly membership - less than 50 cents per day. The junior program is run by club pros Brayden Campbell and Jessika Knight, who, along with the rest of the Bribie Island Golf shop staff, are highly welcoming and love seeing the junior game grow locally. It’s a must-see course with plenty of timeslots available over the school holidays.
Sandstone Point Cricket Club Launch Cricket once again proved it is at the heart of the Sandstone Point community, with families turning out in force for a relaxed and entertaining charity cricket day during the school holidays.
On Saturday, January 3, the Sandstone Point Sporting Complex hosted the much-anticipated event, raising funds for Beyond Blue while bringing locals together for an afternoon of sport and community spirit.
The action kicked off with Junior Cricket Blasters, giving younger players the chance to burn off some holiday energy, build confidence and enjoy time on the field in a fun and welcoming environment. Laughter and encouragement echoed around the grounds as children of all abilities took part, setting the tone for the afternoon.
As the day rolled on, attention shifted to the main attraction, a charity T20 match featuring the senior men’s team taking on an enthusiastic group of parents. Competitive without taking itself too seriously, the match delivered plenty of light-hearted moments, good-natured banter and impressive skills, making it a crowd favourite and keeping spectators entertained well into the evening.
Away from the pitch, there was no shortage of activities to keep families busy. A community barbecue ran throughout the afternoon, while a mega raffle offered a range of prizes and drew strong support. Drinks were also available for purchase, helping to create a laid-back atmosphere where locals could relax, catch up and enjoy the occasion together.
The event proved to be an easy and affordable way to entertain the whole family, while also supporting a cause that matters. Keep your eyes peeled for more cricketing fun to come in 2026!
