BEACHMERE RESIDENTS WELCOME MOBILE COVERAGE NEWS

Stephen Jones MP and Susan Lamb MP joined with Beachmere residents in welcoming the announcement of a new mobile tower for the village. After a long campaign and more than 18 months, residents at Palm Lake Resort can see their message about poor mobile phone reception that has long put their safety and welfare at risk, has finally been heard.

Member for Longman, Susan Lamb MP has been campaigning with resident Pauline Holehouse to force the Government to deliver on its long-standing promise to build a new mobile base station.

Frustrated at the Turnbull Government’s silence, residents invited Labor’s Shadow Minister for Regional Communications, Stephen Jones MP, to help them lobby the Government to fix the Beachmere mobile black spot without further delays.

Six weeks ago Ms Lamb and Mr Jones wrote again to the Minister for Regional Communications, to convey residents’ concerns and demand a response. Determined to get answers, the Member for Longman also raised the issue in Parliament over a week ago.

In April, some residents were advised via Senator McKenzie’s office that a tower would be operational in Beachmere before Christmas.

Susan Lamb said “we welcome this news, but we must remain vigilant to make sure the Government delivers on its promise. In other locations we have seen delays of more than 3 years between announcements and a tower being activated. This is a great step forward but we won’t be popping the champagne corks until the tower goes live.”
