SUSAN LAMB ENCOURAGES ROYAL COMMISSION INTO AGED CARE TO VISIT LOCAL COMMUNITY

Initial hearings for the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety have begun taking place across Australia.

The stories Australians hear will be shocking but they are not surprising.  Labor has been saying for a long time that the aged care system is in crisis.

Susan Lamb Member for Longman Said, “Scott Morrison cut $1.2 billion from aged care in his first Budget as Treasurer, with the Government cutting billions over the last five years.” “You don’t fix aged care by cutting it.” The Royal Commission is an opportunity for older Australians and their loved ones to tell their stories. Labor will be following closely.

There should be no issue off limits. This includes examining the use of psychotropic drugs and physical restraints in residential aged care settings.

Federal Member for Longman Susan Lamb MP recognised the importance of this Royal Commission, and the significance its findings will hold for locals from areas such as Bribie Island, Caboolture, and Burpengary.

“I’m proud to say that I’ve been standing up for this Royal Commission for some time now – even when the Government was shamefully fighting against it.”

“I haven’t stopped representing our community, either – I wrote to the Commissioners this week encouraging them to visit our region to hear directly from locals.”

Susan Lamb MP, has written to the honourable Richard Tracey AM RFD QC and Miss Lynelle Briggs requesting a public hearing in her electorate.
