Tropical Cyclone Oma Damage under repair – Bribie Island Bridge Underpass

Since March this year the underpass beneath the Bribie Island Bridge, a popular thoroughfare for pedestrians and cyclists, has been noticeably closed off.

This is due to damage sustained during Tropical Cyclone Oma which caused the collapse of the underpass’ retaining wall.

For the safety of locals the Moreton Bay Regional Council has been working to have the damage repaired and the underpass improved, design plans were finalised in mid-March and have been implemented.

As works continue Councillor for Division 1 Brooke Savige has thanked locals for their patience while repairs to the underpass are undertaken.

 “Safety is a priority for council so please be mindful of the crews working on site and of directional signage while works are being carried out,” she said.

These works are set to address important maintenance and safety issues with the underpass.

Weather permitting; council is hopeful these construction works will be completed by next month to restore connectivity between the north and south side of the bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.
