Cats are better than dogs. It’s a scientific fact!... said no one ever.

It’s the age old argument no one can resolve, so Council’s recruited former Channel 9 News presenter Heather Foord to moderate the clawing in The Great Debate.

Spokesperson for Lifestyle and Amenity Spokesperson Denise Sims said the free event at Caboolture Library on Saturday August 17 would be full of fun and possible sledging.

“I’m remaining Switzerland on this one,” said Councillor Sims.

“I believe it’s easier for people to train dogs and I think cats are very talented at training their owners.

“The real winner is Caboolture Library which is hosting this ingenious event to celebrate Caboolture Regional Art Gallery’s The Life and Times of Scarface Claw exhibition. A showcase of more than 40 original illustrations by legendary author and illustrator Dame Lynley Dodd.

“If you are looking for a free and fun afternoon out with your friends then definitely get along to this event to see some local celebs go at it like, well, cats and dogs.”

In the cat corner is acclaimed Australian fantasy author Isobelle Carmody and Redcliffe Writers Group representative Jim Higgins.

Bringing the dog fight on the night will be renown writer and USC Professor of Creative Writing Gary Crew and barking mad comedian Jenny Wynter.

Moderator Heather Foord said while she was team dog, she would undoubtedly remain impartial on the night.

“I am looking forward to a fun, spirited event, with lots of rebutting, interrupting and inappropriateness.

“Everyone has a opinion about which one is better - it’s very polarising.”

Councillor for Division 3 Adam Hain said registration for the event was essential.

“Spaces are limited and this event is already proving popular,” he said.

“While you’re in town make sure you hang around to see all that Caboolture has to offer.

“Council has invested millions in streetscaping upgrades and building new parks to help support our CBD’s economy, so now we boast an array of businesses from a Korean chicken house, to a traditional pizzeria and enough coffee shops to keep any caffeine fiend fuelled.”

The Great Debate will be held at Caboolture Library on Saturday 17 August from 4pm to 6pm.
