You may have seen in this paper on the “what’s on “ page information about a fun Fundraising day at the Bribie Island croquet Club on November the 2nd.Each year the club holds such an event to support a charity based on the island. This year’s chosen charity was the Dementia Support Group a cause that receives very little recognition, but is such a worthy cause.
Local service clubs are invited to enter a team of 4, 16 clubs entered,
Traditional Funerals, Dragons Abreast, Bribie Rotary, Caboolture Rotary, Beachmere Palm Lake, Carinity, Karuna, Community Arts Centre, Dementia Support Group,
Pumistone Passage Probus group entered 4 teams as they had won the prestigious mallet twice before an hoped to make it a third time. They are always up for a challenge!!.
Jan Rees the Vice President of the club and her able committee of helpers worked hard, making cakes, manning the BBQ, preparing afternoon tea and asking local businesses for lovely raffle prizes . The star prize being the hire of an 8 man BBQ boat from Bribie Island Boat Charters. Members organized games and exercises for every one helping them with mallet skills and hitting the ball as most contestants had never held a mallet before.
After the BBQ lunch the competition began with contestants cheered on by on lookers including Terry Young the Federal MP, Simone Wilson, State MP and Councillor Brooke Savige.
The winning team was 4 young people from Traditional Funerals who had a great day.
But everyone was happy with the day as a considerable amount of money was raised for this worthy cause which is still being counted !!
Look out for this event next year and come and have some fun !!
