The Bribie Island Brewing Company is a hidden boutique brewery jewel full of interesting flavours and good times. The only clue to the whereabouts of this speak easy style establishment is a small sign on First Ave, which magically appears at 4pm Fridays and Saturdays, half way along the drive from Bongaree to Woorim.
On my way to the surf side of the island I spotted this sign and curiosity got the better of me, so I turned in to the driveway that leads behind and industrial shed to a small cloistered doorway.
Inside, the atmosphere is laid back with some great music being played in the small industrial style brewery bar. Vats of beer, stainless steel pipes and gauges are on display. Craft brews are described on whiteboards and craft distilled spirits are also available on request. Salty spicy beer snacks are available and the cosy atmosphere sees locals get to know one another over beers or catch up with friends not seen for a while.
The brew team are friendly and knowledgeable on their products and run a low key establishment. No drunken carry on here just friendly banter and fun. There are quite a few regulars now but each week a new crop of craft beer enthusiasts arrive. Some come from surrounding areas such as North Lakes or Cabo to try this unique beer.
All tastes are catered for and the beer styles are brewed and sold. New batches of different styles are made and offered ensuring variety every time you visit. They make Stout, Pilsner, Indian Pale Ale, Ginger Beer, German style Lager and many other unique brews. Titles like Hop Tsunami, Itchy Freckle, Pub Latte, Honeymoon Rodeo and Bad Boy Leroy are sure to peak your interest.
If you are thinking home brew yeast after taste, forget it. This is an impressive commercial standard brewery operated by people who know what they are doing.
During COVID numbers have been limited to 18 at a time so keeping the place on the low down was necessary to avoid having to turn disappointed patrons away. The Local and Surrounds can no longer keep this cat in the bag though as word travels fast on Bribie.
Take aways are available in mixed six pack or standard supplies during open hours and during the week also. Some restaurants on the island such as the Bribie Beach Bar and Cafe at Woorim are also starting to stock the brews as part of their services.
Locals love supporting locals especially when the products are as good as this and there is fun involved. Check the microbrewery and craft beer bar out at 201 First Ave, Bribie Island soon.
