Contract awarded for Bribie On Demand Transport trial

The use of On Demand Transport on Bribie Island is getting even closer with Caboolture Bus Lines recently awarded the contract for a three-year trial.

The trial is scheduled to start in late 2026 and will follow the same operating model as existing Translink ODT services on the Gold Coast, Hervey Bay and Toowoomba.

ODT is a flexible public transport option connecting people with essential services such as local healthcare providers, employment opportunities, shopping precincts, community facilities and the wider public transport network.

The ODT bus service for Bribie Island, a key election commitment for State Member for Pumicestone Ariana Doolan, will introduce a more flexible, public transport option designed to better reflect how locals travel, particularly in areas not serviced by traditional bus routes.

Ms Doolan said ODT was about helping locals stay connected and participate in their community.

“This trial is something residents have been needing and it’ll supplement existing public transport options and strengthen community connections,” Ms Doolan said.

The service will operate seven days a week and allow residents to book a trip in advance via phone, website or app, rather than relying on fixed timetables. Once booked, passengers are picked up from a nearby location and may share the ride with others heading in a similar direction.

The service is designed to improve accessibility, reduce reliance on private vehicles and provide a low-cost option supported by the Crisafulli Government’s permanent 50c fares. It is expected to be of particular benefit to seniors, workers and students needing more convenient, localised transport options.

The ODT trial will improve public transport coverage across the Island, including locations where regular public transport services are not currently available or possible. All services will be fully accessible and easy to access.

Further details about the destinations of Bribie Island ODT will be released closer to the commencement of the service. More information on how ODT works is available at translink.com.au/ondemand or by calling 13 12 30.
