From the Editor's Desk

Hello readers and welcome to issue 74.

In our last issue we published an article by Harvey Fewings in which he raised some concerns in connection with Council’s provision of funding to a local business, Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT). The CEO of Moreton Bay Regional Council, Mr Greg Chemello, reached out to us for clarification of some of the statements made in the article, to which we readily agreed in the interest of presenting a balanced view of an important issue. You can read Harvey’s response on Page 8.

Also in this issue, Alistair Gray learns of the dangers faced by Loggerhead Turtles on our beaches, Sheree Hoddinett reports on the floods and how they’ve affected us locally - including the suburb of Whitepatch being cut off from the rest of Bribie Island for nearly a week!

On page 14 Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery is encouraging locals to support locals through Council’s Back a Local initiative, which as regular readers know is a sentiment very close to our hearts, and you can read his message on page 4.

There is of course a lot more good local news this issue, starting with our cover story all about Queensland’s Senior of the Year 2022, Dr Colin Dillon, who lives on Bribie Island.

We also welcome our latest contributors, Danny and Michelle of Island Fishing Supplies in Banksia Beach Shopping Village, who will be presenting their ‘Island Fishing’ report each month.

There’s something for everyone in this issue, and of course if you have something you’d like to share with other readers we’re always happy to hear from you.
