Gas leak excitement in Bellara

Here is the spectacular but safe, controlled gas burn-off by the local Bribie Fire Crew.

A passer-by noticed a strong gas smell and called the Queensland Fire Service. The Bribie Island Fire crew were first on the scene and established that the gas leak was coming from a 210 kg gas cylinder set aside as scrap metal. With high risk of an explosion, the fire service sprayed on the cylinder to keep it cool and reduce the risk. However, because of the nature of the leak, a special fire unit had to be brought in from Brisbane to manage the controlled burn-off of the gas, which took 5 hours to complete.  Here is another example of how the fireys on Bribie are quietly working away, keeping our community safe.
