It is great to see the Bribie Classic Boat Regatta return in full force this year after being washed out last year and the challenges presented by the pandemic. More than 100 boats have registered for the two-day event, which is sure to attract more than a thousand visitors to Bribie.
Held on the pristine waters of the Pumicestone Passage by Bribie Aquatic Community Events Inc., it showcases the Island and a maritime recreational past enjoyed by many of the residents of the Island and the nearby surrounds of Donnybrook and Toorbul. By the way, a ‘classic boat’ is defined as one built between 1943 and 1975. A ‘late classic boat’ is made after 1975 and older than 25 years.
Saturday May 20
All the action will start to be seen around 7am with the launching of the boats at Spinnaker Sound and Bellara boat ramps. This will be followed by a cruise of the Pumicestone Passage at 8.30am to Donnybrook or Poverty Creek, with a free lunch for the boaties organised by the Toorbul Community Association. Next, the fleet will return to the Pacific Harbour Marina for public viewing from 1pm - 4.30pm. There will be heaps to see and do from classic boats, cars and model boats to pop-up stalls, food and entertainment. It is a great time to view the boats on the hard at the Marina.
Sunday May 21
Today, the attention turns to Sylvan Beach with the grand parade of classic boats. The day starts at 9am with an ‘Acknowledgment of Country’ and the sounding of the Conch Shell to welcome the arrival of the grand parade, which includes classic sailing boats, motorboats and speed boats from Pacific Harbour Marina.
Around the beach area will be speciality pop-up stalls, classic cars, model boats, ice cream, a sausage sizzle and musical entertainment provided by the ‘Mullet Gut String Band’. Visitors will be given an opportunity to vote in the ‘People’s Choice Award’ with a presentation by Member for Pumicestone and patron Ali King. In addition, voters will go into the draw for an adventure flight and Ferryman eco-cruise. The Wooden Boat Association of Queensland will also launch and raffle ‘Joey’, a sailing dingy.
There is something for everyone. Don’t miss this. It will be a weekend to remember.
