Two identified black spots are set to benefit from more than $1.26 million in federal government funding for road safety upgrades.
On the Island, $455,500 has been allocated to First Avenue in Bongaree for road delineation, pavement markings, signage and improved lighting to make the street safer for all users.
In Burpengary, a $809,000 grant will fund safety works at the roundabout near Burpengary Train Station and Burpengary Station Village, including raised pedestrian crossings and new signage. The intersection is a known hazard where delays at boom gates can cause motorists to rush through pedestrian crossings without adequately checking for pedestrians.
Queensland Senator Corinne Mulholland has welcomed the news, highlighting how much these two spots will benefit from improvements.
“Every family in Burpengary and on Bribie Island deserves to know their loved ones can get around safely, which is what these upgrades are designed to do, make everyday life a little bit easier,” Senator Mulholland said. “The roundabout near Burpengary Train Station has been a source of genuine frustration and danger for locals for far too long, and I'm proud to see the Albanese Government stepping in with the investment needed to fix it. “This is what good government looks like; listening to the concerns of communities and acting on the advocacy of council to deliver practical safety improvements that save lives.”
The Albanese Government is committing $1,264,500 to these projects as part of $30.2 million committed to Queensland roads under the 2026–27 Black Spot Program funding round.
The projects were recommended by the Queensland Black Spot Consultative Panel, comprised of local stakeholders to ensure nominations of the highest priority and importance to the local community are recommended for approval.
Anyone can nominate a black spot for consideration, including individuals, community groups and local councils.
