It was all smiles with the recent Veterans’ and Families Hub opening at 12 King Street in Caboolture. It was formed as a partnership between Lives Lived Well and the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia (Queensland) to provide much-needed support and coordination of health and well-being support services for veterans in an environment where the needs of the veterans are understood.

Member for Longman Terry Young was thrilled with the new centre's opening after three years of advocating and planning.

“This was the last decision of the previous coalition government. I was so pleased to attend the opening along with the people who had been a major part of the journey,” Mr Young said. “I was delighted when the funding was announced for this centre in southeast Queensland in 2020, the previous coalition government listened to the case that we put forward as to why our community deserved to be where this vital service for veterans would reside.

“One of the first steps was to organise a trip to the Oasis Veterans Centre in Townsville back in 2021 with myself, Darryl from the Vietnam Veterans Association in Burpengary, along with Leah from Lives Lived Well who run the successful Wunya drug and alcohol rehabilitation live-in centre located in Caboolture. We gained many insights on the successes and challenges the Oasis Centre had faced.”

Mr Young thanked Lives Lived Well and the Vietnam Veterans Association for their collaborative and constructive work together to deliver this excellent service and facility.

There is a significant veteran community around Caboolture and Bribie Island and the new centre is expected to provide substantial support. The new centre is staffed by a team of experienced professionals with lived or learned experience in wellbeing case management and connections to the veterans associations across North Brisbane. The centre will address various issues the veterans may encounter, including PTSD, physical challenges, transitioning into civilian life and family support. The Hub is open to all current and former serving Australian Defence Force members, including reservists and their families.
